Pictured: The Liberty Boys, acrylic on paper 45 by 60 in. 2008. This painting is about the protection of universal liberty, justice and true democracy, and incorporates  “protection deities” inspired by the fierce, muscular guardians of Buddha, known as Nio, or Kongorikishi, oftentimes found as statues guarding the entrances of ancient temples in Japan.
