Pictured: The Liberty Boys, acrylic on paper 45 by 60 in. 2008. This painting is about the protection of universal liberty, justice and true democracy, and incorporates “protection deities” inspired by the fierce, muscular guardians of Buddha, known as Nio, or Kongorikishi, oftentimes found as statues guarding the entrances of ancient temples in Japan.
This watercolor and chalk pastel painting was completed plein air (outdoors) near the Dalles, alongside the Colombia River on the south east border of Washington State. It is a painting of one the many cattle guards acting as gates to the large ranches and barbed wire fenced areas of the region, allowing cars to pass, but not the cattle. To the left of the cattle guard is a pile of tumbleweed the wind accumulates in various places. Cattle Guard watercolor on paper, 18 by 24 in. March 2008
